I just recently bought a clear clutch cover, what is the best way to go about cutting the fairing right?

use your derby cover off the old clutch cover, lay it on the fairing over the new clutch cover, circle it with a sharpie, cut it with a dremel, then widen it a little a time until its shows enough of the cover that you like.

The way I always did this mod for any cover was to cut out a round piece of cardboard the size of the clear cover. hang the fairing on the bike. Button up all bolts on it except the big lower one near the midpipe. Now slide the cardboard behind the inside of the fairing, and center the cardboard with the center of the cover. Now tape the cardboard to the inside of the fairing while holding it centered to the cover. It is easier with 2 people. Then take off the fairing, and trace the cardboard onto the inside of the fairing with a marker. Take off the cardboard and begin cutting the fairing away. Always cut a little bit smaller, you can always cut more off. Get it mostly trimmed, then hang it back on and finish trim or sand with 80 grit sand paper. Hth's

Keep in mind that you don't actually HAVE TO cut a round hole in your fairing. If you look at the way the TLR fairing is, it covers the clutch cover at an angle..

This is how I did mine. Didn't have to worry about it being a perfect round cut so it was easy!

...it just gives you an idea. You can make the cut larger or smaller, but it doesn't have to be round...

or take your right side fairing off, set up a laser perpendicular from your bike and point to the center of your clutch cover. Put your fairing back on, and wholla, the laser dot shows the center of your cover on the fairing...
and ya there really cool, until they start to leak.

    Cheers ,Tony

I thought about a clear cover for my bike too. Maybe I'll get around to that mod some day.

I put a chrome cover on mine. I covered the plastic with a lot of tape and removed the disk on the outside cover and used it to draw a circle on the tape. Removed the fairing and used a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade to cut the hole. I also purchased a small black vacuum hose and split it with a razor. Put some glue inside the hose and wraped it around the cut area. The saw cut very smooth but the hose made it look factory. I have gotten a lot of compliments on the look.
