    Stripped oil pan fixed!

Well after findiing out the stealership had tightened my oil plug to nearly 4 times the 16lbs reccomended torque by discovering 4 complete threads of aluminum on the plug itself I decided to do the helicoil trick which so far is holding its own. Here are some pics of the play by play

get the bike up so you can fit a 5/8" bit and DeWalt 18v drill under it! This was my biggest concern of the entire job

Drill the hole, the pan is pretty soft aluminum so don't go at it like a wild banshee! Ya I know i tried to stuff some red RTV as well as some teflon tape around the plug to try and get buy for a couple weeks so I could do it right when I had time.

Tap new hole you have plenty of room for tap so don't be to scared!

Remove after about halfway to clean off tap and finish second half, this way you can check your work. and make sure tap is good

Clean hole and run some oil thru to make sure no shavings are in the pan i then used a degreaser to clean the insert and the hole

Install helicoil after applying a liberal amount of red locktite, tap with took a few times to expand the nurls then wait 24 hours!
Will test tonight with a long ride and see how she holds!

Glad you ran oil thru. Hope you got all the shavings out.
Please buy a front stand. That looks scary on that jack.

Hope you got all the shavings out. I would have just taken the pan off to fix it. That way you know for sure there was nothing there. And you wouldn't have had to use that jack.

a front stand probably wouldn't lift it up high enough for the drill and drill bit..

Ya I have a front stand but not enough clearance for the drill. As far as taking the pan off well here is what would have had to come off too, both fairings, the headers 4 into 2 and then the 2 into the X, plus they were wrapped so all that would have to be undone. In order to do that the rear fairing would have to come off to get the cans off in order to remove the mids, that would also involve removing the undertail. AND THEN repeat the process backwards so no I was not removing the pan!

I flushed the hole with a gallon of old oil, and then took it off the jack, flushed again with the oil that had come out of it and then for good measure ran a quart of fresh oil thru it.

The jack idea was the only way, it was nerve racking to put it up like that but those zip ties are fing strong, rated for over 200 lbs each and I used 6 on the jack and one on the front brake, it was really solid believe it or not I actually rolled it around!

Anyhow a couple weeks later, almost another 1000 miles and she is dry as a cork. The insert cost me 35 bucks, the drill bit 12 bucks all and all much cheaper than a pan and gasket and 12 hours of my life!

Just a heads up. Make sure the surface your loctiting is clean of oil and dry. Otherwise the loctite will not bond.

For sure! I made sure it was dry as a cork and let it sit a good hour to make sure before applying the loctite.

by flushing it twice then inserting pinky and feeling the bottom of the pan, sharp shavings automatically stick in skin making them easy to remove!
