the service is really no more of just checking for loose bolts, leaks, fliud levels and oil change. I put 1k miles on mine before i had it looked @. Nothing to worry about.

Do it yourself and save the money for mods. My first cost me around $150.00 and basically all they did was change the oil and filter. If you lived in Tampa I'd do it for you for a 12 pack of Mountain Dew.

i have never taken my bike for service by anyone other than myself

do it yourself and start learning EVERYTHING about your bike...and a great deal of mechanical aptitude while you are at it...

by the way, really other than changing oil and filter(which at 600 was my 3rd time, 4th at 1000 which was to full syn), adjusting chain, and doing a full bike front to back inspection and re-tighten of every easily accessible nut and bolt, nothing else done.

changed the plugs at 8000, TB sync overdue at 11000 (should have done it at 6k...it was off bad enough it should have been done way way sooner)

I did mine at home. Just do the oil change... and nut and bolt the whole bike.

my first service (600 MILEs) cost me about 300 from the stealership... the second one at 1500 costme nearly 1,400 because I DID IT MYSELF...
let me explain.. a good tool box isnt cheap... sears is great and I manage to convince the wife that even if this oil change cost me 1,400... I can dA**N near fix enything on the house.... with that said I still got a fan and a light fixture to install on the house (six months later) because the tool chest didn't cam with a ladder...LOL
and yes I still take the bike in the stealer ship to look at it for warranty purposes.. all i write in the costumer reports line...just don't take anything apart and say you did... and if you need to do something.. just put it on the dyno first...
