While looking for a chain riveting tool, came across this link and wondered if it might work (don't mind that it's a Kawi forum).

Dracken, good link and original poster definitely is creative. I never thought of that, I just picked up a Motion Pro set when on sale. I do have a few DIY tool, like fork spring compressor, and others, but try to not get too wrapped up in making all these different tools, then when I need something simple it won't work anymore cuz I turned it into something elseStill, for those wanting to save the $12 most dealers would charge to rivet the chain or $60 for a HD set, this would definitely get the job done.

The question is not how far. The question is do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith to go as far as is needed? The Duke.

I picked up a few tools from Harbor Freight today to try this out as well.
1) double tube flaring tool kit, item # 66534: $13
2) 3" C-clamp: $2
3) heavy duty chain breaker (rated to break a #530), item # 66488: $10
4) 6" utility caliper, item # 07914: $2
Had to use a vice grip and large channel lock pliers to twist the head of the C-clamp off, but the pipe tool was easy enough by hand twisting. Now to find the dremel to grind the flare off of the old chain and use the breaker to finish the job...
