    C40 code...

last weekend i had the FI light come on , so i went home and got the code out of it (C40) went through manual idle speed control valve.so i performed the circuit tests from ECM to connector-ok . then tested valve had 79ohmes on each pair of terminals-ok manual says approx 80ohmes. it had a bit of corbon in bore so i cleaned it out and brass plunger on valve. reinstalled everything and went for a ride. light back on. i can get light to come on when i do a hard 3rd gear roll on through remaining gears.
did some searching and found out a clutch switch can cause this code to come on. i have a set of chinese levers on bike so i swapped out clutch lever back to stock and did another test ride, light still came back on the only test i couldnt do was idle up/down as i dont have the sds(think that is what its called) to command idle up/down to see if valve can be commanded.
any insight from others are deff welcome.thinking about starting with a new clutch switch way cheaper than the ISC valve(321.00)

Merdy have you messed with the clutch wiring at the lever?

I've read that on the new models if you try and by pass it or it gets a bad connection you will get a C40.

nope, just had the aftermarket levers installed. which i already swapped out my clutch lever back to stock and light still comes on.will prob end up taking to shop so they can check valve with SDS tool.and have them do a idle reset. if it comes back on ill have to sweet talk a friend that has a 2008 busa if i can try her ECM. that is also a prob cause of light.man i hope its not that

Check those connections just to make sure, before you spend money. Its not the lever so much as the wires/switch.

The only prob I have had with the clutch switch Merdy was it was really dirty, and wouldn't let my bike start sometimes...almost acted like a dead battery. A little brake clean and small q tip, then some spray silicone and she was good. No code though. The clutch switch is just a magnetic micro switch...pretty basic.
The only code I get now is C 24 - 27...the 4 coils get a hit from the 2 step launch master which in turn throws up the FI. Resets after key is off...

great news, once i picked up new clutch switch and looked at it i knew that was the prob. installed new switch and went for a hard ride trying to get light to come on but all stayed good here is a pic comparing old/new switch, you can see contacts stuck together. never seen one before so i didnt know they were suppose to be apart

Wish I saw this thread earlier. I bypassed my clutch switch because I got a C40 code last week. If you disconnect the wires going to it after the bike is started the C40 won't come on. Right now I just have the connections taped to my clutch master cylinder since I don't have that switch anymore.

Ya I'm glad it was just a 23.00 part lol. Guess I'll hold off on buying the obd tool. Just no were in manual does it have you check clutch switch. That's why I wanted a thread about it, hopefully it saves some one some headache
