    oil plug stripped

any sugestions on repairing a stripped oil plug.let the service mgr from my dealership change the oil and give it a checkup.my bad but i had to work and did not have time.took it out sun for a short ride and parked it.air filter came in today in installing it noticed oil on the floor and traced it to plug.tried to tighten it and it just spins.pulled it out and the threads look fine on the plug so i think the stripped part is my motor.what can you do to fix this.

Go back to dealer, or worst case maybe a helicoil?

Dealer own you an apology and new oil pan.

Plan B is going to autoparts store and buy +1 plug, they have special plugs just for that purpose.

they have +1 +1.25 +1.5.... You don`t have to rethread it. it`s self threading plugs.
I`d buy all 3 sises and go with smallest first. And flush your engine after you done that. Just make sure no aluminum left inside.

Don`t ask how I know that... I fixed it like that and changed oil many times after that without any problems.

I wasn't aware of these self-tapping plugs. I told him to buy a new oil pan.

the self tapping plugs are very sweet.. i had this problem with my oil pan on my TL... they dont have seperate pans, its the whole part of the case!

what happens is you thread this piece thats a little bigger into the pan and that stays permenant then that piece you threaded in has a little drain plug bolt on it.. thats where you drain it from.. works very good and i think was only like $2.50

I think the company that makes them is Oil-tite.

And if you use "thread cutting oil" it makes for a neater job. Just turn it in a few times, and back it out to clean the shavings off.

Make the dealer put a new oilpan on your bike its thier fault. Next time you change your oil always use a new crush washer. PS dont over tighten.

The proper way to do it is pull the pan and helicoil. You could rig it with the "help" brand self tapping drain plugs, but you risk doing the same thing again.

I just went through this with a buddys bike on saturday. I bought a 14mm spark plug repair kit from checker autoparts ($12.00). It comes with a tap and helicoil like inserts in several different sizes. I also bought a new drain plug from Lockhart Philips..its aluminum and comes pre-drilled for safety wire and has a magnetic pickup as well...$8.95

Hopefully all will be good...I havent filled it up yet.
