I didn't know a battery could make such A difference! My new to me 02/06 / with OEM battery has been! just not as smooth running as it was 6 mos ago! Thinkin! crappy fuel, After I checked T.B. sync, plugs, and was about to recheck valves! It didn't start as snappy as it used too, kinda surged at low rpm, Headlight would get brighter as rpm went above 3k rpm. It did run better after a ride. That should have alerted me to the problem. But knowing the battery was primarily to crank the engine and did I wasn't concerned! The other day went to cut the grass! Mower's (Never Start) crap battery was dead again! seems even the better wallyworld battery craps out every year in these things! happened to have the Busa battery out checking/charging it, popped it in the mower which cranked the H out of the 17hp Briggs. The zuke dealer had a Yuasa for $90.00, since the mower battery was half that! No brainer!!! Jumped on the Valkyrie (cause its got a trunk) after grass cutting, popped the new one in the Busa, WOW!!!!!!! barely touched the starter button and alive it was! Headlight barely glows any brighter from idle! I can't remember the started sounding as crisp! The idle which I have @ 1K is strong rite away! surging is totally gone! and MPG seems to be better if not flogged! was 45 now 50 again if kept under 80 in top gear.
Good info, I've noticed mine has about the same symptoms and figured it needed a TB sync or it was just the heat.
Guess I better look into a new battery also. Was that a stock battery you bought?
Thanks....
yea the battery is just more than USed for starting. Funny things start happenin when battery starts going. On a Flooded battery, once it dies once, Just about half the life of the battery is Gone, and it will never recharge to full. More the battery is to store and absorb Voltage Spikes. If you got a bad cell, Your making your charging system work harder because the inability of the Battery to have good stored energy at the ready. So really the surging is the charging trying to keep up with the demand of the electrical Demand

Yep same as OEM for 99 to 07 from zuki dealer. They were $127.00 the last time I asked, was about to stuff one of those larger mega CCA ones we all think we want! From what I hear from those who know, is just overkill, and won't last as long. Now if you need one to crank A big bore! Yes. $96.00 with tx OTD.
i have yet to install the Motobattery from pashnit.
That was a moose of 200 CCA wasn't it? I drove myself to the bottle shopping batteries! So just got what zuk used in it. Was going with the YTZ Yuasa made for Honda! But why!
Gell! That was a steal for a gell!!! This one is just (Absorption Glass Mat) Doin you no good on the shelf! My old one has a new career! Starting the mower!
Daytona, make sure you check the charging system as well to ensure the voltage regulator is doing its job right.
I just picked up I think the same battery for my buddies 1098, shipped $50 from a Duc guy who swapped to race battery. Brand new, with a full charge... saved me some coin, well really him, but I had to pop for it since he's still in Iraq.
The question is not how far. The question is do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith to go as far as is needed? The Duke. Thunder Composites

Talking of batteries I had to disconnect mine and 'reboot' the bike from zilch after the thing went crazy. First off the bike wouldn't start, the FI lit up so I reckoned it was the immobiliser, wrong. Then it started and wouldn't turn off on the key, I had to use the kill switch. So thinking the ECU was p*ssed off with me for some reason I disconnected the battery, waited a couple of minutes, connected up again and everything's been fine since. I reckoned if it worked for the computer it might work for the bike ... and it did. It's still a worry that I never got to the bottom of it, and I have a thousand mile trip coming up, but fingers crossed eh.
