Thread: Alpine first Spring invitational ride...

Danny (Copperone) and anyone else wanting to ride the S.W.'s version of Deals Gap... A few friends and I are planning to return to Devil's Highway from Morenci to Alpine Arizona. The ride follows up Hwy 191 (used to 666) twisting and turning 91 miles, elevation from around 4000' MSL to Alpine's 9000'MSL. Some beautiful scenery if you care to stop and take pics or just enjoy it for a minute. Our route will be leaving Sierra Vista around 0500, arriving in Safford around 0830. From Safford its a short stint across the southern mountain range and into Morenci, a quaint little mining town. Filling up in Morenci, we'll roll thru the tunnel and arrive on the 91mile stretch of paved paradise. Arriving in Alpine a couple hours later, rest, talk story, get pics etc.. then roll back down. Either running the Devil's highway in reverse, which none of us have done, or heading off to S.E. and running down NM 180, decently curvy, but provides a slightly quicker run back down to I-10. Total trip from our SP is 660miles.

Since there are a few Arizonians in here thought we'd extend the invite to those interested from here as well. Haven't seen Wag on here, so might have to jump to the other site to send him an invite.

Now, to make sure my wife doesn't jump on here and see this. Was planning on doing this next w/e, but she said no. 1 Apr she flies to Miami to visit familia, leaving the CAT to play

WOW! That is an awesome looking road! Unfortunately - it's 989 miles from my house to Alpine.

So does that mean your not going to up for it? You can rest at my house, which would only put you 330miles from the top! Definately getting video of this journey though.
