The Laurinburg/Maxton Airport is located in southeastern North Carolina, approximately 50 miles southwest of Fayetteville, NC; about 100 miles east-southeast of Charlotte, NC; and just a few miles north of the NC/SC border. Check your map for roads to the area. Below are detailed directions from a few of the nearby main highways. From I-95 (north or south): Follow I-95 to NC Exit 14 (Highway 74 West, “Lumberton” exit). Follow Highway 74 to the Laurinburg/Maxton Airport exit (no number; approximately 20 miles from I-95). From Highway 74 (east or west): Follow Highway 74 to the Laurinburg/Maxton Airport exit. Once at the airport exit on Highway 74, at the bottom of exit ramp, turn right (north) onto Airport Road. Follow for approximately 0.8 mile to the stop sign intersection.Turn right onto Skyway Church Road. Follow this approximately 1.2 miles to Hickman Road (left turn only).Turn left onto Hickman Road. After the stop sign, proceed straight onto Airbase Road. After approximately one-half mile through a series of curves, the entrance to the ECTA Track is a gravel road on the left. On race weekends, it is marked with a large ECTA sign. For a detaied map of the local area, click here For customized directions from your home, try Mapquest. Click here

Really would have been nice to attend this.... was already planning on making it out East this summer, but then plans get jacked... 1700miles.. I wonder if I can make that and back before Mama found out I really wasn't just "going to the store"....

A week ago I decided to throw the fairings on the bike and see what it would do faired. After getting to the track I decided to play crew chief all meet and let Todd run my bike faired. We are going to Bonneville in August an he has been offered a ride on a gixxer that's done 200mph out there. If things work out and he's able to make a pass I wanted him to be prepared. He hadn't made a run over 200mph since 2003 when he was riding the Brooks' turbo busa.
His first "shake out" run was an outstanding 207mph! Just a tad below his personal best of 207.55. It was a lot of work keeping the bottle pressure down on the nitrous & CO2 bottles in the heat. We opted not to install an inline purge so we used cooling clothes & cooldana's too cool it. That was his only run Saturday.
Sunday he ran a 204 and two 205's. Our data logging O2 sensor went bad so I swapped it out on Sunday after the 204 run. We were pulling logs and refilling nitrous bottles between runs so we knew we wouldn't get too many runs in. After the 3rd run Sunday I was in the process of increasing the nitrous ramp up when they shut the staging lanes. So we didn't get to make another pass. We think the bike probably has more in it but were just as happy to go home with a running bike. Todd was able to make 4 passes over 200mph so who can complain about that!!!
I became even better in tune with the bike by being the crew chief this time & running the show. I plan to go back in September and do some more running naked.
Shane & Rachael also came out bringing both of their new bikes. They only ran Rachael's bike. I'll let them fill you in on their results. I will say that they did well with the new ride and expect to see big things to come in the future!
some day Deb...i WILL get out there to see you, Todd, Rock, Powers, n everyone else...
I just have to sell a kidney first so I can afford the trip down there
friggin gas alone would be like $300+ to go....unless I just ride the Busa the whole way-NOT!
Heavy has the right idea! That's how TFA from TX made it out this meet!
BigDiesel I could have sworn you were there. I should have taken a picture of the trailer I saw!! Now I'll have to try to remember the web site name & post it for you. This trailer pulls in, I look up and if it weren't for the VA tag on it I would have sworn it was your wife painted on the back of it!! Todd and I looked hard before we were sure it wasn't you!!! We had our hands full or I would have taken a picture.
It was something about womens riding gear but done in the same style as your stuff.
I'm on my way out the door but I'll try to find the name tonight!
(Hey, that might be a way to get you there, I'll find the site & you tell her some other chick is moving in on her territory! That should motivate her to get your bike down there for a little advertising! )
Deb
Hah haaa!! thats some funny shid Deb-I'm willing to bet it was someone reppin Scorpion gear for women-the model in their ads is a black-haird chica, but her cut is waaaaaay shorter than Amy's hairline-she's rockin it all the way down her back, just touches on 'da shelf' as I like to call it
Def. have to find out what site that was for tho-mebbe I can drum up some more work for us while Im racing!
I do like Heavy's idea, but unfortunately, dbl-Rs here in Milw are all ummm...*sshhhh plz dont repeat* a lil slow at least by Maxton standards. Not a single straight-liner in tha crew 'cept for yours truly-everybody likes puttin their front wheel up more than goin fast. which explains all the R-1s and Honda CBRs...my Busa is getn lonely, lol
