Would I be able to run 200+ at Maxton by changing the rear sprocket to 37 running 17/37 with a stock Busa. I dress out at about 250 lbs.
Input appreciated.![]()

If you're stating stock busa as in stock engine, stock pipe then no amount of gearing is going to get you over 200. The best that's been done and known to date is either 192 or 194 (I can't remember the actual speed) by a very seasoned racer.
I managed a 187 in march with a hefty tail wind, one tooth off on my "optimum" gear and a button shifter. We thought I *might* be able to pull a 190 but didn't get a chance at a last run.
You'll need a TRE or GPS mod to get you over the 186. A pipe and good tune will usually get one into the mid 190's. I think we've seen a busa or two hit 200 with a pipe, minimal work a small rider and many many runs, not to mention the duct taped suit!
Hope this helps some!
Deb
PS: This would do nicely in our LSR section!![]()
in short; not a chance.
250?
you are going to need somewhere north of 200hp, lots and lots of practice, great body position, no seat, maybe a couple inches in your arm, 18/40, 39, 38, 37, 36 to see where you are going to be, good form fitting leathers. ok, maybe a generous helping of duct tape.
Let's not forget at least one pocket full of cash, a strong shoulder to cry on and some relaly good weather blowing the windsock on the tower in the right direction.
Cool thing about it dadofthree... is whether you do it or not, it's still fun(and legal) trying!
Out of curiousity, would you be trying at Maxton or Texas(both venues have their pluses and minuses depending on your setup).

Thanks guys, I've got a bulky JR Alter Ego outfit. DahMurf, was planning on running 17/37 sprockets because they will achieve 205 at 10,200. Based on what has been stated maybe I should try it stock or with a 40 vs. 37. Might just go 37 for the heck of it.
The not so legal way
You could go 37 if you want but the bike won't pull it. Not enough HP's stock. I'd stick with stock gearing if I were you. Bring one up & one down if you want a little wiggle room & the tools to change it. Easy change track side, we've done several. If you've never done LSR before, which I believe is a correct assumption here, then you'll need to do some licensing passes to work your way up to top speed and there is a learning curve. Lots to think about. Where & when to shift, where on the track to ride, how to shut down (how to avoid cones.. ahem) how to tuck, efficient shifting. The list goes on & on.
It's all good fun, just don't expect to hit it your first meet out without doing a lot of leg work beforehand. I do highly recommend trying regardless of the outcome cause it's a heck of a lot of legal fast fun with some of the best people you'll ever meet!![]()

because of your size, you probably wont have the hp to pull a 37 on a bone-stocker. its not your weight, its the associated girth that goes along with it. i'm 310, so I have some experience with this.
consider taking it as it sits right now. bring an extra hub or two with a 39 and a 38 tooth sprocket on it. add a TRE, take the seat off. have someone look at you in a tuck position, on the bike with your leathers. that way you will know where your leathers might be sticking out causing potential flapping.
most importantly, have a good time. both venues have their benefits. maxton has a much bigger turnout.
come on out and give it a shot. At least you'll have an idea of what you need. There's lots of info there you could talk with. You have to start some where/sometime. see ya in sept
I love that you guys are so welcoming towards a rookie rider.
Is everyone like this down there?

BTW, Dado3, Todd & I were just chatting about your gearing. I was running a 17/42 for my 187 with a tail wind but I'm running the BoostBySmith GPS mod to override the stock limiter.
Todd was filling me in that you may be thinking about the 17/38 @ 10,200 due to not having the restriction removed. Is this the case?
Either way we still don't think you'll pull the 17/38 with stock HP but we may be able to get you closer to top speed for your setup if we understand your setup. You'll do better removing the limiter and upping the gearing with being able to run up to about 10900.
You'll have to listen to Jornic on the power to weight ratio considerations cause I'm weighin in at 118 @ 5' 2.5" so you're way beyond comparison to me. I can tuck behind the wind screen & not even realize I'm going (too) fast!![]()

Dado3, if truly stock(pipes and all).... I'd reccomend the GPS-mod by Greg(smithabusa @ boostbysmith.com) or a TRE, and running a 17/43 sprocket combo(and then a 17/42 if you can pull the 43 to redline by the traps).
Doesn't matter too much though as your first meet will be about the knowledge flowing in ten directions and we all want to learn on our own and enbd up getting our own humbling in one way or another(all fully understandable, but I do truthfully hope you prove us wrong).
There will be many there to help you in your decision making if you desire - including us(with the exception of this meet that is) and we also carry many sprocket changes with us which your more then welcome to borrow what you need if it's a combo you don't have with you.
Look forward to seeing you there and make sure you make having fun your number one goal ----> next to safety.
Todd
17/43 would put me at 173 MPH in 6th gear at 10K. I need to measure a mile or use mile markers and see what I can do stock. Just to get an idea. The bike pegs out quick and pulls slowly from 9800 past 10K. No idea of the distance used to do this. Need to do more leg work before going to Maxton. So far I've only pulled a hand full of runs to see what the bike would do and how it would feel. The bike is extremely smooth, but the turbulence starts to creep up once you peg, that's for sure.
I was just talking to Todd and the guy that rides the ZX-12 Sat about LSR . Full of great info and advice. I don't know if I will ever do 2 bucks but I will certainly give it the ole college try. Everything about LSR sounds cool. I am trying to make Maxton in Sept. May run may not but I want to expenence it.
Check out Todd's web site. He and his wife have certainly walked the walk!!!!![]()
Maxton is always fun to go to. Even if you're not racing there are so many good people to meet. You'll get the itch though and wanna run it.
A good view of the track(and it's condition & "at the time" cone placement)
