    Winter projects and mods. 2011

Its that time of year ago folks. Lets get some input up and see what everyone has planned for the down season. Everything from projects to mods and even maintenance lists. What you are doing may be big or small or even some what simple to you but may help out another member that is needing/wanting to do the same thing or something similar.
Besides projects are always fun to read about and see pictures of progression through out the project.

The only thing I have planned so far is modifing a tire hugger to fit under my bike. So i will get some pictures up as soon as I start work but basically I will take a standard hugger and trim it down with some kind of design (not sure the design yet) because the way they come from the factory won't fit under my lowered bike.

Maybe its just me. I'd take a used stock tire over a new shinko.

I think that's what I'm doing also. Hugger, brakes, chain/sprockets. That's about it.

In S. AZ., my winter is only a month long, perfect for doing the upgrades, overdue maintenance oversights, paint etc...

    My to-do list:
    On the 2008 Ducati 1098:
New EK ZZZ 525 Chain (put another D.I.D. on cuase I was in a pinch, regret that now).

Paint, lowers and tail in satin black.

Brake pads all the way around, over 19k on the OEM and they're getting low on material.

Clutch frictions and steels (wish I could afford a Slipper setup), same as brakes, over 19k and its chattering.

MW Adj. clip-ons with 30mm rise.

Disassemble, bake, remove inside projector light cut-off shields, reassemble and upgrade to HIDs.

    BMC race filters.

    Powder coat swingarm satin black.

    On the 1987 Ducati Paso:
Pretty much strip it down, powder coat frame and swingarm + all the little bits. Tear engine down, new rings, bearings, seals & gaskets, belts. Rebuild shock and forks, repack wheel bearings, swingarm and steering head bearings. Fiberglass and fix body panels, prep and paint, factory Red with Yellow unless I change mind before then. Add a Double Bubble and generally get her looking sexy again. Free bike I pick up sometime in the next couple weeks. Will be a much longer than "winter" project.

On the 1998 Ducati ST2 (this is the actual Hollywood prop bike from the movie "Blade" w/ Wesley Snipes)
If I end up picking it as I expect, I plan on basically restoring it to original condition. Its been neglected, sitting outside, not run, not covered in S. Ca and S. Az over the last 12-years or about. Paint is horrible condition, some cracks on plastics, needs total overhaul etc.. But the comfort of the ST series, combined with their performance will make this a worthwhile project, and its history is amazing.

    On the 1973 Triumph Spitfire:
Option 1: Rebuild OEM transmission; reverse gear and 1-2 cluster gear is ruined from jackasses trying to hit reverse while rolling, replace OD solenoid and switch, $350.
Option 2: Pickup a rebuilt transmission and Layland OD unit, $900.
Option 3: Engine & Trans swap with a Miata, fuel injection (would be nice), triple HP and double the Tq (would be amazing) 5 or 6spd (better gear ratio's), $850 or less, including wiring and ECU.

Replace wiring harness and gauges that don't work (have a few spares already). Prep and paint, currently leaning towards the original "Mimosa" yellow, but throwing in a pearl, and doing the satin black racing stripe off center on passenger side. Install custom Leopard wood dash that I formed and my friends dad is machining (very dense wood, eats up regular saw blades and router bits). Have seats reupholstered w/ new foam etc.. I've already made door panels, rear quarter sail panels and rear bulkhead divider (to block view of gas tank) panels. Install carpet and transmission tunnel w/ various bits of custom interior/dash pieces. Set of 13" Ultralight wheels specific to this model (thought about 14's or 15's, but limits the tire size and suspension etc.. Last will be the convertible top.

Depending on Option 1/2 or 3 will dictate if I keep current 4-2-1 header, or swap out for the Miata system. Probably add in a Monza quad-tip, or dual center exit tip header back (what catalytic converter ).

    On the 1969 Chevy Truck:
Swap the 305ci V-8 for a 4bolt main 355ci V-8. Add a Gear Vendors overdrive unit, or rebuild a 4L65E w/ electronic override control unit. Spruce up the interior a bit, has riser high-back bucket seats now, may swap out for a 40/60 split w/ console...will see. Custom stereo setup of course. Prep and paint, Tangelo pearl much like GMs old truck.

Think between that, contractor job w/ General Dynamics and running our new shop, CSC-Customs, LLC, I should be more than busy

I'm keeping it light. Adding a Sirius unit, a 12 volt outlet or 2, and adding a different LED plate light.

I think I may put a 12v charger on mine too... I added the distro block years back when we all bought them but never put the charger on.

I'd also like to get my throttle bodies synched and do a basic 20k tune up.

Say what you will about hillbillies, but they are a resourceful and innovative bunch.

Was considering adding Autocom setup and Garmin for long trips. Tried using earbuds on long trips and they just end up hurting my ears after a while and giving me a headache.

Probably going under the gun(paint gun) again, and thinking of doing some motor work. Maybe build the internals for boost. Either way, it will come out 1397cc. I have access to a built head and cams, so I may just go the all motor route for now.
