Thread: is ebay safe?

so i am trying to buy a hayabusa and looking all over. i found a 2002 with low miles that sounds like a pretty sweet deal but its on ebay. im sketchy about it tho. I emailed the seller asking him if i can just come see the bike in person and i could buy it on the spot if i like what i see. he seems reluctant to give me any more info than what is on ebay. he keeps saying that basically once i commit to buying it he will give me whatever info i still want. has annybody ever bought something this big off ebay and can i trust it?

thats sketchy, if hes interested in really selling it he should have no problems showing it to you. I hate buying sight unseen and he could be neglecting to show you if there are any defects or even yet Major issues. I understand that people dont like knowing the location of the bike or where they live. Instead ask him if hes willing to meet you somewhere like a walmart parking lot.

With Ebay I learned, how the seller treats you pryer to the sale is how he will treat you after..
The good thing about buying a bike is..
You are going to pick it up in person, if you get there and its trash, walk away, if its good buy it... Ebay may call it a contract but the contract thing works both ways, if they misrepresented the item, they can go pound sand up a fat ladies @ss....
Totally different story when you are getting something shipped to you, that you are buying unseen....

I agree. I bought my current truck on ebay. The seller let me test drive it and then let me use his computer to Buy It Now. Just be careful.

i put a low bid on the bike it never met the reserve so he contacted me with a second chance offer at 6000

Being that she has no history as a seller and she was reluctant to participate I think you are making the right decision.

if you really want it buy it... and plan to be there before 48 hours... take the money and show up do not give the deposit.... if it goes bad report it and let ebay know and walk away....but imho it looks kinda sketchy I read something about them doing that with hayabusa's so be careful! goodluck

Yep stay away from it, if he's not willing to work with you on that bike don't even bother wasting your time. If you commit then he's got you. Be safe and stay away

I bought my Busa and my YZ250F off Ebay, you have to contact the seller and make sure they are for real.. and go see it in person if you can before the auction ends. If this guy doesn't want you seeing it before the auction ends, move on.

I bought mine through ebay. Got good customer service with the guy. had cash on hand and met me more than half way. He let me look it over, started it, and just had good general conversation about hte bike before and after the sale. do not do a second chance offer

Ebay looks at selling large $$ items like this as just payme for the exposure! If it sells or not they get the listing fee, so he shouldn't blink about selling it off ebay. I wonder why the buyer mentioned he went thru with the buyit now! What purpose did that serve? 99% of bikes are sold to contacts after the ad ends anyway! Deposit costs the seller .68 + 3.25% of any US $ that they tend. gets costly to the seller! How many feedback did the seller have? Remember if he was a newby he probably was as confused as anyone! Ebay can be complicated.

also remember how popular hayabusa's are... its not like your grandfathers 87 cutlass that he didnt know it was worth more then $500.. theres usually no steals on these bikes...especially since any clown with $$ can buy em...see too many people with 1000's as their first bikes....also see alot of them crash...

What are you so scared about? Two scared guys will never do a deal.

Just bid on it and pick it up with cash in hand. Go to DMV together and finish the deal there when you 100% sure that everything is OK.

If you take those stupid (and obvious) rip offs out of the equation, it is no different than the cycle trader. Get them on the phone, if it smells bad, bail. It is difficult to sell good stuff on ebay because everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop. I have sold a couple of outstanding bikes on there over the years. What I did was take pictures of the bike with post it notes on the key areas that had a the dudes name written on them. That seemed to help because they did sell. I gave enough info that they got in the car and checked the situ out in person.

I'm a ebay addict with over 300 purchases and only been burned like 5 times. All items under $200. Big ticket items should be done in person. I contacted the guy who sold me my busa and i went to meet him with cash in hand and he gave me the vin# and I had a couple of cop friends run the plate and vin to see if it was stolen. If you aren't sure about a vehicle purchase, take him to DMV to do the transfer then hand over the cash.

I bought mine from cycle trader and the guy let me test drive the bike and then I paid him for the bike. I think I came out pretty good 06 LE busa 857 miles and 5 year extended for $9300. So try them and see if you have better luck.
